As the fine people above me have stated you in fact do loose 5 points per question. I was surprized at that as well. Yet only two points for an answer. So you get silly people SPAM answering for points just to have points to waste.

It's 5 points for each question you ask and for different levels, you have different abilities... For example, for starters... I think you can only ask 10 questions per day and you still have some other restrictions... As your level goes higher... You can ask more, answer more and rate more...
