Let him have access and split the cost.
Be a indirect provider.

All your neighbor has to have is your wep key!
Wouldn't be hard to aquire.

When are people going to fianally realise that there in nothing secure with these darn computers.

If the wireless access point supplying your Internet connection is not providing WEP or WPA type encryption (or something similar like LEAP), you won't be able to automatically encrypt packets over the air, of the wireless network. You could use something like SSH or SSL to create securely encrypted tunnels over the wireless network and Internet, to appropriately configured servers on the Internet. In that case, your packets could still be "read" by anyone else with access to the wireless network, but their data contents, being strongly encrypted, would still be meaningless to anyone without the SSH or SSL cryptography keys.

Since you didn't tell us what wireless device you are using try this,

Using Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router Setup

Basic Diagram:

+--------+
|High |
|Speed |
|Modem|

+----------+
|Linksys | +------+
|WRT54G|->|PC-A|
|Router | +------+

|PC-B |

Setup Procedures:

Before you start you will need some important information!!!

If you are already connected, go to the command line

Start-->Run-->cmd

Type ipconfig /all

You should see something like this:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . .... : MyComputerName
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . ..... . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . : MyDomainname.com

DHCP Server . . . . . . . ........... . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . ............ . . : Unique IP Address
Primary WINS Server . . . ....... . . . : Unique IP Address

Write these down or save them someplace for future reference.

If you don't see anything like this you will need to get from
your ISP.

After you have all this information and have all your hardware
connected similar to the basic diagram above you will need to
configure your Router.

Open broswer like Internet Explorer, Firefox or some such.

In the Address box type:

http://192.168.1.1

If you get prompted for a Username and Password type these,

ADMIN/ADMIN

We will change these later.

You should be take to the Setup window for the router. Use
all of the recommended settings below. They will help you
configure your router for safe wireless use and wired use in
your home.

Whereever you see something in angle brackets <...> you must
supply. When you create a new password use both upper/lower
case letters and numbers. Write it down, memorize it, eat the
paper you wrote it on and never share with anyone. Just kidding
but you should not take this lightly. Anyone who know this
information could make it so they could hijack your Internet
connection. This could have sever legal consequences or imbaracing at the least.

There should be instructions with the router (details depend rather on which make it is). You need to set it for WEP or WAP and it will then be protected by a code which you will only need to enter once into your wireless-connected PC. Check your manual or their website for details. Belkin, Linksys and the rest have different configuration menus which all amount to the same thing really.

WAP is supposed to be more secure than WEP but is less compatible with different wireless network cards. If all the PCs you are likely to be connecting are going to be using the same protocol as your router, then use WAP, otherwise use WEP.

If you have a wireless router and it's not a cheap wireless router you should have paper work that shows you how to setup the router to not allow any anonymous connections. You can set a password so anyone trying to connect to your router will have to have this password no connection will be allowed with out it.

This is the most user friendly and the easiest way for the average PC user.

Good luck!

First off it so NOT illegal to "piggyback on someones wireless internet access. People leave their wireless unsecured all the time on purpose to share with their neighbors (don't you think the canble and DSL corporations are making enough profit already?

Buit if you really want to be stingy (it costs you nothing extra to share!), well:
(this is from Windows XP help)
Open Network Connections.
For a wired connection, click the connection for which you want to set up IEEE 802.1x authentication, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
-or-

For a wireless connection, do the following:

Click the wireless connection, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection. On the Wireless Networks tab, click a wireless network in the list, and then click Properties.
On the Authentication tab, make sure that the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box is selected.
In EAP type, choose the Extensible Authentication Protocol type to use with this connection.
If you choose Smart Card or other Certificate in EAP type, you can configure additional properties. Click Properties and, in Smart Card or other Certificate Properties, do the following:
To use your smart card certificate for authentication, click Use my smart card.
To use the certificate in your computer's certificate store for authentication, click Use a certificate on this computer.
To verify that the server certificate presented to your computer is still valid, select the Validate server certificate check box, specify whether to connect only if the server resides within a particular domain, and then specify the trusted root certification authority.
If the user name in the smart card or certificate is not the same as the user name for the domain to which you are logging on, select the Use a different user name for the connection check box.
To specify whether the computer should attempt authentication to the network if a user is not logged on, or if the computer or user information is not available, do one of the following:
To specify that the computer should attempt authentication to the network if a user is not logged on, select the Authenticate as computer when computer information is available check box.
To specify that the computer should attempt authentication to the network if the user information or computer information is not available, select the Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable check box.
