I do agree with you also. Today young blacks don't care if there is a 'WET',etc. go on. ..have something you could call your own. White america should not be afraid.

Why are white americans offended when something exists that's not catering to or geared towards them? All of american television is geared towards white middle America with black actors and characters comprising only small backround, supporting roles that often amount only to stereotypical comedy relief. Even that comedy is geared to white tastes. It's what they think is funny. We usually think it's pretty lame. Why do you people get so upset when there's one lone channel where black people can go to see shows about, for, and featuring us. It's not like you don't have all the rest of television to choose from. Even though it's not what it's overtly called, all the rest of american television is White Entertainment Television. White people just feel so entitiled that they don't feel the need to specify.

BET in the beginning was born to fill this niche. It was to be the one channel where black people could see shows that depicted us in main roles and as whole people; not just sidekicks to white people. The unfortunate thing with BET is that it has failed to fill that niche. Instead of intelligent, original, cutting edge programming featuring blacks as the main characters, and with black writers, directors, producers and the like, we've got old stale re-runs and way too many McDonald's commercials. You can't even see black videos on BET anymore. To cap it off the network isn't even owned by black people anymore, it's owned by Viacom (a white company).

So, to answer the question...yes I think the name should be changed, but not for the reason that you've stated. I think it should be changed because 1) It's not even owned by black people anymore, and 2) it's not very entertaining.

And as for white people being offended, I'll tell them the same thing that they love to tell black people who complain about how horrible the discrimination and racism that they've inflicted on us has been. GET OVER IT !!!

I don't think it should be changed and here's my reason i don't see any harm in black or white networks but if you allow one you shouldn't be offended by the other. Now I know if there was a network that catered itself to whites It would create a massive outcry of people screaming racism which is a shame that we can have magazines television networks and even schools catering to one race so long as that race isn't white. I find this offensive but not merely because it is geared to a specific race but because it is impossible for whites to do the same thing. Can you imagine a magazine called Ivory?

It never offended me. Actually I didn't realize what BET stood for until I had been watching a few shows regularly on it and made a comment that I liked them but there seemed to be a lot of black actors and actresses. It wasn't said with any bad intent, I was just wondering out loud and one of my kids said, " What did you expect mom? What do you think BET stands for?" and told me. We had a good laugh at my moment of idiocy but I still enjoyed a lot of the programming. The name is an accurate one, I think. Now, if someone tries to come up with WET and it causes a problem then BET should be made to change as well.

There's nothing offensive towards that. It shouldn't be changed just because some people are offended, at least one person gets offende everyday, but there shouldn't be a change on everything a person is offended by. It's life, deal with it.

many of the television stations already are majority white. There are some channels the place you will never see a minorites face on there. yet, to reply to your question... no, i in my view does not be offended. i'm assuming you're making use of wager as your reference. And, wager is owned by Viacom. prosperous white human beings capitolizing off of hip hop lifestyle. perhaps you may take it up with them.

i think it's wrong. we would be called racist if we had wet or the white American college fund or the NAAWP (national association for advancement of white people) but i guess the guidelines for things like that are that it's OK as long as white is not used for the race

Absolutely not, most white people think that everything is racist nowadays, some of them play the race card more than black people do. Others just don't let it phase them.

No. It is fine the way it is. The department stores are not going to change their "White Sales" are they? Just a thought.

No one can offend another. To be offended is a personal choice each person makes.
