you may need a new water heater, but I would try pipe inulation and a water heater blanket first. you can get them at Lowes or Home Depot.

It depends on the distance between your water heater and your faucet, when you turn on your faucet, imagine the hot water traveling through your pipes from the water heater to it...The hot water in your pipes cool down when not in use and therefore you are flushing out all the cooled water b4 the hot gets there..

If you have electric hot water heater, then you may have one of the two heating elements that may of went bad. I suggest that if you replace one that you you replace both heating elements. Otherwise you will be replacing the other heating element in a short period of time. If you have gas hot water heater it may be your thermostat.

one of three or four things could be a problem . if you have an electric hot water service , it could be the element is waring out . if it's gas it could be condensation in the pipes , or indeed you may have a bad leak somewhere ; then again you ,or family' may be taking a longer shower than necessary !
