It has to be measurable i.e quantifiable in terms of time and quantity. If you achieve that, then that is success. This is not an absolute i.e. good planning is an iterative loop of Plan, organise, direct and measure. If there are deviations along the way - which inevitably there will be - you adjust accordingly with the resources at hand. Unless you have clarity of vision coupled with honesty in resource assessment, you are a drifter. Incidentally my comments do not necessarily translate to just material aspects. If your question is trying to tease out morality or intangibles, the statements are still true!!!
