For me it was a story of hope and disappointment. Most stories have that "and they lived happily ever after", this story was more real life, things don't always have a happy ending. The movie was great also, the only thing was the name was different, Cliff Robertson was the star but can't remember the name. One of the few movies that held true to the book.

I read it in eighth grade. It was an interesting story, but sad. You could see how he was going back to normal when his journal entries were having more and more mistakes. I think that movie "Molly" with Elizabeth Shue had the same type of situation.

It is one of the greats! Creative on many levels. Yes it has a tragic ending, but it was written before the world was brainwashed and Disneyfied.

it was a great story but it made me feel so bad.i always root for happy endings. I guess u can say it was happy because he had the chance to have a normal life for a short period of time but i wish he could have been "cured" forever.

It was too depressing - I was in a funk for days after reading it. My 8th graders read an exerpt this year and I STILL found it depressing!

I found it rather too tragic to be loveable.

I'm glad I read it but I'm not sure I'll ever read it again.
