It changes in that it contains different hormones (this is how at home pregnancy tests function). However, pregnancy does not cause urine to become clear.
Like others have stated, hydration (water, not sugary drinks) leads to lighter coloured urine. Morning urine often appears more strongly coloured (and usually smells more) than urine later in the day because the waste elements (these can inldude vitamins, minerals, sugars, and proteins that your body does not store) that your body has filtered into that urine have been allowed to concetrate whilst you sleep.
Protein in urine makes it appear whiter (opaque, rather than clear). So this would be due to concentration of a substance rather than dilution, which is the case of clear urine.
Trivia: Berocca will make your urine very bright yellow. Copious amounts of Blue Curacao will make it go blue. Drinking large amounts of coffee or eating lots of pineapple can make your urine smell like coffee or pineapple respectively. (I don't recommend drinking excess blue curacao or coffee, however berocca is a good pregnancy vitamin supplement as it does not include vitamins that can be harmful to embryo/foetus when stored in the body in excess).

Urine can be yellow or clear pregnant or not. Clear urine means you are hydrated enough and yellow means not hydrated enough. Notice how it's always yellow first thing in the morning? That's because you have not had drank much of anything while sleeping.

I don't think the urine has anything to do with pregnancy. The bladder is a total seperate part from the uterus. I know if I drink alot of water, my pee is clear. If I drink alot of pop, it's more yellow.

Your pee can change from many colors from what you drink, but not only because you are pregnant. If that was the case ept would go out of business.

I've never heard of that, but anything can happen. Your urine will become white/clear if you drink more water and lay off the carbonated beverages and such.

I don't remember the color but I do remember it had a "different" smell, that is associated w/pregnancy and all the hormones that go along with it.
Have her register w/the following websites, they'll give her updates throughout her entire pregnancy on what to expect, etc...

I think it changes because your hormone levels change when you get pregnant. If you're really concerned, see a doctor.
