if the idea of governemnt is to protect, serve, and generally take care of its citizens, yes. It is disgraceful that we spend trillions of dollars providing for 3rd world countries when we have people dying daily here because they can not afford health care.

No !!
We have programs in place to assist the poor and elderly .
Many drug companies provide medications at no charge to people who can't pay .
yes, there are millions of people without health insurance , mostly young people , others are wealthy enough not to need insurance and some don't feel they need it.
More employers would offer insurance if they could write off the full cost on their taxes.
Health Insurance is a power grab issue with some politicians , they'll control every aspect of health care , including who gets what and when and from who .
Then there is the cost ( tax ) ,ever see a government project come in on budget , At least $2000.00 per person per year .
It will be the WELFARE PROGRAM all over again , where 77% of the money was swallowed up in the bureaucracy and only 23% got to where it was needed .
As it is 2/3 's of the federal budget is spent on social programs .

This is really a dilemma. We would all like to see everyone covered and that would be the ideal. However, not too many want to pay 80 to 90percent of their income to support this system.

That being said if we eliminated all pork barrel spending and numerous other programs, quit handing out free health care and other services to illegals.

Like a family, if we want something worthwhile we have to make a lot of cuts and special interest groups would be up in arms and yes, we must remember our politicians are fishing for every vote they can get.

Also, people need to be educated about their own health and avoid habits and activities that incur most of the cost of health care.

We are not promised health care. For those of you thinking about how great Canada is.. break an arm and go to a Canadian hospital. In a few hours call me, ill laugh at you while you wait 6 or 7 more..

i do believe some reform is in order. i would like to see a cap on all medical expenses, i do believe "they" made it nearly impossible for the lazy uneducated people of the world that dont get health care from their jobs to afford a simple accident..

The need for health care has reached critical proportion, but the Government does not owe it to us. The Employer's do, they should offer decent affordable health care to every employee.
The Government owes health care to our Veterans, the poor and
disabled. If everyone would receive free health care, we all would be in trouble, since it would result in chaos, we don't have enough Physicians, especially in rural areas, the system would be overwhelmed.

I think we should provide a percent of Health care to low income persons say under family income of 20k a year. Also I think it should be 100% to our senior citizens. Most of them have contributed a great deal to our society yet they get shafted in the long run..

For the rest of the people I think we can fend for ourselves until we reach one of the above situations. Think of it like an unemployment type of benifit or Social secrurity.

A Co-worker adds:

HAve like what Canada has where the government provides a base health care. Its not all providing but its a bare minimum of coverage. While you can opt to get better coverage atleast you would have a base coverage.

The Government is the people for and by the people.

Yes the USA should have a national health care program.
Except your GOP lovers won't spring forth.

It makes sense to care for the young--
They'll earn more-pay more taxes-be less burden and
less expense when they get older.

Most every Civilized (perhaps civil doesn't apply to USA) County has a health care program.

GOP called it socialism when democrats tried to push it thru.
Greedy Old People (GOP)should be voted out in November and deported. (send to Afghan and Iraq)

For those who say no, I sure hope you are studying to be nurses. They won't be many to care for you in the future, except foreign imports who will accept the deplorable working conditions we have now because of insurance strangulations.

We need to be responsible in taking care of our own health.
People who are in real need one can understand them receiving a helping hand.
The majority of people who say they cannot afford it drink, smoke, buy take away meals etc.
Therefore they can afford it.
It is our health our responsability not any one elses.
