I'm a little lost on your question - there are shaft drives on all sorts of motorcycles and they are VERY reliable.

Depending on the mileage, you may have to change the shaft drive oil but other than that, shaft drives are fairly indestructable and usually will outlast the motorcycle as a whole.

There are times when they fail but it's usually due to abuse or lack of maintenance. I did have a BMW touring bike and the shaft drive did fail at 50,000 miles but, again, this was due to the previous owner not lubing it.

In short, buy the bike, change the fluids and have fun riding.

There are several popular motorcycles on todays market that use shaft drive, including BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki. Shaft drive is quite popular for long-distance touring bikes, because it requires less maintenance than a chain or belt drive.

The BMW's are shaft driven

The Honda 1300 ABS is also Shaft driven.

They work better and longer w/o problems they any other system.
