The inside of our mind is as wide as the universe that we are
aware of. There are much more details and quantum than we
have knowledge of in all the data storage in this world. Even
existing data are not exhaustively collated or studied.
Emily Rose' s situation will be described differently in different
society. If the diagnosis of all societies are put together and
studied without prejudices then perhaps a better picture will
emerge.
External factors influenced Emily in that manner because her
system is built that way with environmental influence having a
hand as well. Hypnotism, self-hypnotism, mass hypnotism,
intentionally/unintentionally play a role in each of our lifestyle.
In the midst, each life has to carry on. Believe, unbelieve in
all its variation from the past and anew into the future.
Remember ghosts were not a problem in New York until
the Ghostbusters were created.

I watched that movie - actually three times - my faith tells me that it is possible she was possessed. In my studies of mental health, I cannot recall a disorder that would cause someone to act that way. I'm not aware of a seizure type that would cause someone to act that way. The world is not black and white and I believe there is a world other than ours. Death is not the end. It's possible she was possessed.
