My towels always dry hard when I let them dry outside in the fresh air, even doe I use fabric conditioner. Does any one know if there is anything I can do to keep them soft when drying them outside.

The extra rinse is correct, its the powder residue that makes them go stiff. I do an extra rinse with softener

You should rinse them twice and add at least 2x the recommended amount of fabric softener... Also when in the rinse mode (where the washer fills up with clean water and the fabric softener is added) open/pause the washer allowing the towels to sit in the water with the softner for about 20 min... Then resume washer... Hope that helps

Use a 1/2 cup of white vinegar in your rinse cycle. Also, I have found hanging towels out on a windy day (where the towels would do a lot of flapping) helps.

They won't be hard if it's windy outside. You might use an electric fan inside. Fabric softener prevents the fibers from being as absorbent as they would have been. Softener also builds up--the towels will be less absorbent with every wash/rinse you use it. Hard water causes detergent & softener to be harder to rinse out. You might need to put them through a washer cycle with only one cup of white vinegar instead of detergent.

Rinse them twice and hang them when there is a strong breeze. If they are still stiff rub each towel with your hands until they are soft. In the first rinse use the fabric softener and do not use it in the second rinse.

Wash them at a lower temp.
A harder towel means a dryer towel which will dry you better.

Reminds me of an old riddle

What gets wetter the more it dries?

Although using more fabric softener is correct, keep in mind that you are rubbing that residue chemical all over you. I suggest drying them part way outside and then putting them in dryer to finish them off.

Wash on a gentle wash with plenty of comfort or lenor. Dont dry on radiator hand out on washing line or put on airer.

Conditioner which you upload to the bathing device. there will be a compartment interior the detergent drawer for conditioner. Conditioners at the instant are not meant to be that good for fabric, yet once you extremely hate that scratchy feeling, they are the only answer.
