No, not really. A lot of people believe that there are different kinds of intelligence (seven, to be exact).

1. Linguistic - People with this kind of intelligence enjoy writing, reading, telling stories or doing crossword puzzles.
2. Logical-Mathematical - People with lots of logical intelligence are interested in patterns, categories and relationships. They are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments.
3. Bodily-Kinesthetic - These people process knowledge through bodily sensations. They are often athletic, dancers or good at crafts such as sewing or woodworking.
4. Spatial - These people think in images and pictures. They may be fascinated with mazes or jigsaw puzzles, or spend free time drawing, building with Leggos or daydreaming.
5. Musical - Musical people are always singing or drumming to themselves. They are usually quite aware of sounds others may miss. These kids are often discriminating listeners.
6. Interpersonal - People who are leaders among their peers, who are good at communicating and who seem to understand others' feelings and motives possess interpersonal intelligence.
7. Intrapersonal - These people may be shy. They are very aware of their own feelings and are self-motivated.

Standard IQ tests typically test logical, mathematical, and language abilities. As you can see they completely leave out the other four types of intelligence, which are measured in quite different ways.

I'm sure you've heard the term musical genius in regards to Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach.

IQ tests have a tendancy to measure how good you are at IQ tests. Studies have shown that repeat testing increases a person's IQ. Having said that - there are different types of geniuses. How would you measure an artist on an IQ scale? Its not really something you can measure, and that's before you start trying to define what "genius" is!

No. Einstein is considered a genius and his IQ was never tested. There are probably others too, but he's the one that comes to mind.

Absolutely Not. Creativity and IQ are separate abilities. Although creative people have fairly high IQs, their genius is based on ideas not the ability to distinguish patterns.

ABSOLUTELY NOT !!

I know a few genius' who are such idiots they can't even balance a check book, but their IQ's are outrageously high ! I also know people who couldn't pass a test if you helped them on it but are genius' in their field.

Testing is not an accurate way of labeling all people, it merely gives guidelines to those who need to see numbers because they can't think for themselves. This is particualrly true in the school systems!

Absolutely not. Genius is a total mystery. There are many individuals known as "Savants" who score in the imbicile range, and yet who produce tremendous works in mathematics and art. And nobody knows how they do it. Here's an interesting article for you.

I guess it depends on whether you want someone who can function in the real world or not.

Most genius' are recluses and so they don't really do much for humanity so is genius really the right word for them.

Einstein failed in school, but he was considered a genius. Geniuses are not just knowledgable of what is already known, they are creative in that they can find things that are not yet known to man.
