what is your definition of grown up?

I am a university student in Japan. due to my school-work, I want to know the definition of adult. when did you consider yourself to be an adult?　Why? when you answer my question, add your hometown and country(＾＾）

"Adult" also means "not considered suitable for children", in particular as a euphemism for being related to sexual behaviour, such as adult entertainment, adult video, adult magazine, adult bookstore. However, adult education simply means education for adults, not particularly sex education.

an adult is judged by their own culture. is many places it's 12. others 16. if your female then 14. in the u.s. both 18 and 21. at the playboy clubs it's 25. in korea its 21 but you have to be careful there because the dat you were born they add a year and if your birthday is december 31 and you just turned 20. the next day you are 21. in the u.s. exceptions are made. you can become an adult through either legal petition and emancipation or by legal proclamation so you can be prosecuted for a crime as an adult. when you are actually an adult depends on when you begin thinking and acting like one. this is the most vague interpretation of all because many adults think like children and some children think like adults at a very young age.
when are you an adult? it's when you think you honestly are one.

I became an adult when I married and had a child (in that order, btw). Prior to that, I was a big kid, with a lot more money, but no more responsibilities than when I was a student. Call it "24."
I became accepted as a "complete adult" when I hit "33" and stopped being "young man" and started being "Mr. Grendle."
Two stages of adulthood, really. Internal adult and societal adult. And you'll notice they are almost a decade apart.

U r counted as an adult when to starts taking up ur responsibilities on ur own. And u do the right thing to make up to the mark by fighting back to do everything that is required by the situation and never accepting defeat. I m in Chandigarh(India).

A grown up will be a person who's matured both mentally and physically and is ready to take on responsibilities. U also need to be able to take decisions. U need to be strong enough to deal with stuff and to help others around u who need ur help.When u start feeling protective about people and start handling ur responsibilities well, u know u've grown

In common parlance A GROWN UP is a person who shows maturity in the social settings ie exhibits appropriate behaviour when in company.
However given the general social set up, grown up also refers to losing out on some of the values we have when we are not-so-matured. i mean as people grow up they tend to lose their sense of humour,their laughter turns to a socilly appropriate smile, they tend to be hypocratic in behaviour and lose out on things like innocence, crystal clear heart etc
hence according to me a grown up would be somebody who would be matured enough to handle emotional turmoils and social problems,speak out when they see something wrong happening around them and yet maintain their laughter and a true heart
by the by that was a thoughtful question

i am doing my schooling (11th) from india.i feel adult is when you are not only physically but also mentally grown up. grown up for me is when you are able to take wise and ofcourse correct decisions.you can understand what is right and whats wrong around.
