You are right, it is not true. First, no spider has poison. They have venom (venom is injected, but that is just a technical detail that drives me crazy). Second, you have to define what you mean by daddy long legs. There are three basic animals that are called this. One is a crane fly. This is a flying insect with very long legs. They are not venomous, and pose no threat to humans. The second one is a spider, and it does have venom, but it is not dangerous. It will rarely bite and if it does, it won't be any worse than a bee sting. The third is an arachnid, but not a spider. These arachnids do not have venom glands, so they are not the "most deadly spiders." In fact, they aren't even all that deadly to insects. They are sometimes scavangers, sometimes hunters, and will even eat rotting plants. As you can see, none of these "daddy long legs" have poison but no fangs.

I always thought that they were poisonous than a Black Widow's, but they cannot bite humans because their jaws won't open wide enough.
BUT then I heard that it was just a popular myth!
And that a Daddy long legs (crane fly) is different to a Daddy long legs spider.
The Daddy long legs does have some venom but not much.
Any way check out the link below to research it for yourself!

The term 'daddy-long-legs' is in many cases used to consult from 3 diverse animals - spiders of the relatives Pholcidae, harvestmen (that are arachnids, yet not spiders), and crane flies (that are bugs). None of those animals is risky to human beings. mutually as all spiders very own venom with which to kill their prey, few are risky to human beings. the father-long-legs spiders discovered the place I stay (uk) have fangs too small to penetrate human pores and skin. i think some species contemporary in North us of a of america can penetrate the exterior, yet have venom too basic to do you any harm. Harvestmen and crane flies have no fangs or venom and can't harm you in any way.

I heard something different to that and that is that there is a spider that lives in very hot climates with the same name and that is very venomous. The myth came form this and apparently it isn't true it's just people thought they were venomous because of the name.

Crane flies (Daddy Long Legs) are supposedly the most venomous creature in existance. Along with every spider in the UK, they just don't have the teeth or jaw strength to be able to puncture human skin.

No, your friend is correct. Daddy long legs are very venomous but because they can't or don't inject enough poison into humans they are harmless to humans.

Well, he was close... A "daddy long legs" is a creature that is very closely related to a scorpion. It is extremely venomous, but its mouth parts are unable to pierce human flesh, so it's not a danger to people.

Where does this myth come from? Daddy Long Legs, or, to give them their correct name, Crane Flies, are harmless, have no bite and no venom. They don't need it. They do not eat throughout their adult life so why would nature equipment them so?

From what I have heard, and seen on mythbusters, they have very small fangs that can't penetrate the human skin.
** correction** Some can penetrate the skin but their venom is not poisonous to Humans or they cant deliver enough venom to be deadly to humans.

No, that's false. Depending on what you mean by Daddy Long Legs, you could be speaking of the crane fly, a harvestman, or a common long-legged house spider. The harvestman and crane fly do not have any sort of poison, and the house spider has only mild poison.
