In terms of..?
It's a developing country that has often been associated with Islamic terrorisms. Other than that, it's a country rich with cultures and history. Jakarta is the capital, but Bali is the place to go.

A land of ultimate diversity, I've been there three times and my parents are from there. Some parts are crowded, but that's what makes it exciting. The place is rich in cultures and ethnic groups.

Indonesians are among some of the most friendliest people, and I urge you to make friends with Indonesians or visit there (and not for a quick holiday as you don't have much time to "experience") before you come up with negative comments.

Indonesia is quite an interesting place, with a lot of islands, languages, religion etc. it's like a world on its own. I love Indonesia.

Indonesia is a beautiful country with very friendly people, I'm going there on a second trip next month. Also, very disappointed with all the previous comments-- btw, don't be an ugly American, and you'll be fine anywhere in the world!!!

Been there numerous times for a total of 6 months.

This is based on my experiences there:

PEOPLE:
Being a westerner in Indo is great. People like you and are so warm and welcoming.

MONEY:
Your money is worth alot, $1 has the buying power of $7 there. I go to the bank and buy crisp stacks of cash. Smaller denominations are important when in villages cause getting change for big bills is something we take for granted in the developed world.

ACCOMODATION:
Indo rocks for this. It costs from $2.50/day to $30/day on average for a room or suite. There are so many hostels and hotels. Hostels can be dirty though.

LANGUAGE:
The language is really easy to pick up on because the grammar is basic. You can easily find a job teaching english without qualifications needed in most countries.

PIZZA HUT?
A large stuff crust pizza at Pizza Hut is $5.
KFC is everywhere. There are so many different types of food available and its sooo cheap.

MUSLIMS?
Indo is mostly muslim. Hindus are in Bali and Christians are in Lake Toba. If you say you are a muslim people's faces brighten up (if they're muslim). They're very happy about it.

MARRIAGE:
Some of my friends have converted to Islam to marry Indo girls but one stayed Christian and it worked out great. They have a child and still live in Indo. When people convert they're usually still Christian at heart but need the formality of islam to do the marriage. Sometimes its expected for the husband to pay the bride's mother a fee for marriage.

WEDDINGS:
Weddings are packed full of people. You and your wife kneel or sit in chairs as people come by to give blessings. You can mix your culture's wedding with theirs if you want. You may have the whole village arrive.

MY THOUGHTS:
In Indo so much is happening around you, time slows down. 2 days is like a week. A week is like a month. You really get to stop and smell the roses. There are so many amazing places to visit and so much to do. Jungles, temples, volcanos, villages, cool insects/animals and more. I love going there and would love to live there. The people are awesome (save from local guides) and you really have a great time.
