Let x be the age of Bernie at this time!

so,
in fifteen years = x+15
her age nine years ago = x-9
4 times as old as she wen she was nine years ago = 4(x-9)
x+15= 4(x-9)
x+15=4x-36
3x=51
x=17

hope u could understand it!
cheers

Let the present age of Bernie = x
Age on 9 years ago = x-9
Age After fifteen years = x+15
x+15= 4(x-9)
x+15=4x-36
-3x=-36-15
-3x=-51
x=17
The present age is 17 years

Let Bernie's age NOW be x. Nine years ago , the age was x-9. !5yrs later the age would be x+15
x+15=4(x-9).
Solve for x. The answer should come out to be 17

First step is to put that in equation form.

Let x be Bernie's current age.

So we have

x+15 = 4 * (x-9)

(read this carfully with the worded problem in mind and you will see where it comes from)

Now, solve the equations:
x+15= 4x -36
51=3x
x is therefore 17.

We can validate this by seeing that 17+15 is 32, and that 32 is 4 times 8, and 8 is 17 minus 9.

Let

x = present age

x + 15 = age in fifteen years

4(x - 9) age she was nine years ago

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

x + 15 = 4(x - 9)

x + 15 = 4x - 36

x + 15 - x = 4x - 36 - x

15 = 3x -36

15 +36 = 3x - 36 + 36

51 = 3x

51/3 = 3x/3

51/3 = x

17 = x

The answer is x = 17

The solution set is { 17 }

She is 17 years old

let age be :-x so in 15 years age will be x+15 but 4 times as she was nine years ago will be: 4(x-9)
now equate equation
x+15=4(x-9)
x+15=4x-36
4x-x=36+15
3x=51
x=17years

She will be a goreous 17 year old. Working as above. With all these problems, the approach should be to let x be the unknown, and then apply the known facts to it.
