Blow up a balloon. Place scotch tape on it in an X pattern. Insert a needle to pop the balloon in the center of the X. You will see that the air comes out slowly until finally the balloon rips apart where it is taped. This is considered a mini sonic boom. The tape holds it together so that the air seeps out slowly until there is enough pressure to rip it where the tape holds it.

It's more of a demonstration than activity, but it's a cool way to show the concept of inertia.
Suspend a fairly heavy object by a thread. It should be just at its breaking point. Tie another thread to the bottom. A really quick jerk of the bottom thread will break it without breaking the thread holding the object. Then you can lightly push down on it to show how easy it is to break the top string.
This shows how the object resists acceleration because of its inertia.
