In my opinion when sitting in conversation with any one it is basic good manners to remove any head covering. Jack Straw has made a valid point here. How can you talk to someone sat across from you when you can't see their face?,I wonder sometimes who the hell is under these inverted sacks

Jack Straw is doing things how they should be done...
If we walked into his office with a scarve round our face we would HAVE to take it off.... so it should be the same for Muslims...
I am NOT being racist in any way... but I just think things are moving on with time now...
This is what should have happened 4 years ago!

I wouldn't be so ignorant as to present myself to a Member of Parliament (or anybody with any kind of authority or with whom I chose to show a modicum of respect) whilst wearing either a crash helmet or any kind of hood in the first place, so there would be no need for them to ask me

Like he said, he asked. He didn't demand and these women obliged. It wasn't a woman who complained, he wrote in his newspaper column that that's what he does so he's got himself in to trouble there. No-one complained about him but they are now. How silly. If they didn't want to they didn't have to. This country is going sadly down hill. When my grandfather was a boy you resepcted elders, strangers, peoples parents, you got up for people older than you if you were sitting down, hell my Nan used to make me do it when I was a kid. Who do these people think they are? Demanding we're racist and we have no respect for them, how about some back? It works both ways you know. It was a simple question which at the time no-one took offence at until he published it himself in the paper. If the women in question didn't care at the time then what's the fuss now. If you don't want to do it then don't do it!!!

I think it is perfectly reasonable to show your face when talking to someone, as body language and facial expression are more important aids to communication than the words.

I should say that it is only good manners to remove anything that hides the face when you are in conversation.
