Depends on what the soles are made of. If rubber/plastic composite, try laying several thin strips of "Shoe Goo" Shoe goo is a commercial product used to repair rubber shoes. It will replace the worn out treads on your shoes. If leather, sandpaper works best.

try a bit of resin (sp?) like you would use for ballet shoes :)
