Born in Iran in 1966 and moved to America as a teenager, Anousheh Ansari is best known as being the first female space tourist. Much of her life is explained by her being a member of the wealthy Ansari family. With her husband and brother in law, Amir Ansari she founded Telecom Technologies, Inc., which they then sold to Sonus Networks for $550 million in stock. The stock shortly dropped from $40 a share to $5 a share. The three are being sued along with five other co-defendants for insider trading.
She has been involved in telecomunications for some time, often acting as a consultant in the areas of Frame Relay and ATM switch testing and evaluation.
Ansari has recieved numerous awards, including one of only two females to be included in Forbes 40 under 40 when she was 35. She was also won the George Mason University Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, the George Washington University Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Southwest Region. While under her leadership, Telecom Technologies, Inc. earned recognition as one of Inc. magazine's 500 fastest-growing companies and one of Deloitte & Touche’s Fast 500 technology companies and honored by Working Woman magazine as the winner of the 2000 National Entrepreneurial Excellence award.
