Big difference. Freeway has limited access (on ramps, off ramps) and no stops. Highway does not. Whoever says otherwise is just plain wrong. Here's some food for thought... why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway?

Peachy is mostly right. A highway can be a two lane road that you can get on or off with out a on/off ramp. A freeway has on/off ramps. Now an interstate highway goes across many states. You can live on a highway( like me i live off highway 42 ) That i turn on to my driveway.

Freeways are a type of highway. A freeway can only be accessed by ramps, so there will be no stop signs or traffic lights. Also, freeways have no tolls, which is why they are called freeways.

All freeways are highways, but not all highways are freeways. Some highways that are not freeways are toll roads.
As far as I know, all toll roads are highways.
