If you just refer to the WWE... then I dont have an answer for you. The WWE is a pile of crap now because it focuses on poor talent and crap storylines rather than a realistic style of Professional Wrestling. You will also find that many teenangers watch WWE... there not just 8 years or younger.
However, when your say 'wrestling'... there are actually some proper-style promotions out there. These promotions have some legit wrestlers (submission style wrestlers) that have been trained PROPERLY!! Many of these wrestlers do the proper MMA stuff also.
Dont get me wrong... the WWE have some decent real life fighters, but the WWE doesnt utilise it because it refers itself as "entertainment". Because the WWE is the biggest promotion, it is also the most watched... and people always refer to Pro Wrestling by the WWE.
Look into Japan dude... much better stuff.... or you could watch Pride of UFC, etc instead.

as previously said, its escapism and entertainment. We all know the results are predetermined and the moves dont hurt as much as they look on tv. Its not that different to the reason people watch any drama tv show- we like seeing a story played out amongst characers we have developed feelings about. People watch eastenders and coronation street knowing full well that Pauline is going to get bumped off by Dot's ciggie fire at christmas yet fans of these programmes arent ridiculed the way wrestling fans are.

Good question.
I have 3 or 4 friends that are in their late 30s & early 40s that are so into wrestling they tape wrestling matches just in case one of them misses one. I compare these guys to women & soap operas. I guess wrestling is a form of soap opera, just without the kidnapped baby & good looking doctor, but pretty much everything else.
I guess this isn't the exact reason why, but my friends can't really explain why they watch it either.

Interesting. Same as someone watches football, but we watch wrestling. I have been watching wrestling since i was a kid. It is actually getting boring at the moment.

because we know it,s fake. it,s great entertainment and most of us have been watching wrestling since we where kids am 25 and i,ve been watching wrestling since i was 9 or 10 years old

its a beautiful sport , its breath taking every second of action that the superstars preform. it annoys me because the only way to hurt me in school is insulting wwe. they say its fake and all this , i just say back to them SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT. if in wanted to see people kill each other id go see , i don't know what id go see. but people think these wrestlers dont go through pain and suffering , they think they are not dare devils jumping of the top of a 15 foot high steel cage . i don't know if that answered your question , but it gave me the opportunity to have a bit of a rant so i thank you. hope this helps.

Entertainment, Enjoyment and an escape from reality for a couple of hours. People who knock it have never really sat down and watched it!!!!
