I am just wondering because it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I kn ow that they deal with employees and benefits but explain to me what justifies the higher pay? I took HR in college and to me, it was worthless like Psychology or Marketing.

Someone. Please explain to me why HR generally is paid more than other business fields.

I am in HR for a nations largest HMO. I oversee 600+ physicians. I pay them, and take care of their benefit packages, keep there files up to date. And do any special projects they ask, spread sheets, statistics etc. I work closely with the dept heads. I orient all the new physicians. I don't think I'm overpaid for my job, especially when I see what they make! LOL
More important is do you enjoy your job and are you really doing what you like.

Mainly due to the fact of having to deal with people day and night. You tend to get more money based on jobs that contain more risk. HR has to deal with many things they may not really like doing but have to be done as part of their jobs. Also, since dealing with people, their reaction to a HR rep can also make the job more stressful, thus leading to higher pay to keep people in the profession.

It is all about dealing with peple. If you can do that, then HR is a great job. If your inter-personal skills suck, then maybe not eh.

The philosphy is HR place the best people in the jobs.

This is hard work, but once you have the right candidate working for you, the business will gain better credibility.

The fact is, having the best people in positions is financially beneficial, so the renumeration for HR Managers is justified.

I believe HR people are not paid as well as many other business fields- doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, salespeople, professors, managers,...check out salaries on salary.com, link below.

Also HR is very understaffed and the workers are overworked, in my experience. Also they are among the first to be laid off. Many HR people have left the industry and are now headhunters or career consultants.
