Mohammed Afzal, who was convicted for his role in the attack on India's Parliament in December 2001, will be hanged on October 20 at Delhi's Tihar Jail. The family of Afzal met Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam and sought clemency for him. It will be interesting to see what Kalam does in the case, but what does fellow Indian nationals say about this issue !! Should he be given a chance to become a model citizen or hanged to death ?

Speak up India..!!

This is a issue of Indians pride to clement on terrorist who attacked our Parliament house which is the house of millions of people elected leaders were there to discuss our Nations problem.
What is the problem for the organizations which indulges in these kinds of terrorist activities? why don't they try to figure out their problems by just executing their plans on the people who is in charge of that problem.
They could be politicians who they wanted to be executed, but they have chances other than these kinds of activities.

The ones who pull the trigger is not important in these kinds of issues we have to eradicate all of them till the root, who ever behind these.

Since he wasn't the one who pulled the triggers, he should be pardoned from hanging. But he was very much involved in the planning of the attacked so he should be given a life sentence.
If he is given the capital punishment, then i think the people involved in the Gujarat riot and the Sikhs massacre of 1984 should be given the same punishment. Lot of well known people and politicians were involved in the planning and attacking in both the incidents, but they were let off with lighter punishment. I think the people who were involved in the Gujarat riot and the Sikhs massacre are more worse than Afzal because they killed their own countrymen whereas Afzal is a terrorist who was ordered to do so.
Mr.Gobi Thavam, wasn't Gujarat riot and the Sikhs massacre of 1984 a national shame??

To answer your Q, let's pretend to be in Dr Kalam's shoes. As a muslim president of a largely Hindu nation, I know if Afzal is pardoned the religion card will be thrown at me - and if he isn't pardoned, it will strike my critics as appeasement of the Hindus . Either way, the backlash is immense.

However, in true Indian judicary style, I should do neither at present and procrastinate - India needs to tread gently for now, but send a strong message eventually.

Let it simmer down for now. Then strike when the iron is cold.

why should this be given this much thought.. why people & media is giving him so much importance? why we are growing weaker day by day.. no doubt our politicians should be hanged first, but his intensions & anti national activities should have him hanged the same day in public.. & those supporting his mercy should also be given similar fortune
