Expecting my 2nd baby 22nd january... but I'm just wondering if it's common to go into labour earlier with second children? I went 10 days overdue with my first and the wait was horrendous! Obviously I know she'll come when she's ready but I'm just interested..

Every pregancey is different, just like every child. my first child was a boy, 2weeks overdue and 9pounds 8 oz, labour was induced and he was born 1 1/2 hrs later, 2nd a girl was induced at 38 wks and took 12hrs, third a girl went into labour at 39 wks 48hrs and had to have a c/section, 4th a boy induced at 37 wks, took 6hrs, 5th a girl was induced and was born in 4hrs, 6th a girl was induced was born in 5 hours, and my last born january this year, i went into hospital at 6pm, was seen by the doctor told not in labour and i could phone home to say i would be home at 11pm after a little monitering. by 9pm i was climbing the walls, begging for gas and air, the nurse told me i was not in labour, and i yelled at her. She finally examined me and shouted for the other nurse to give me gas and air, as i was 7cm dilated. By 9.45pm my little girl was born 4wks early and for the first time in 15yrs i had gone into labour by myself. Dont worry about what you cant change, just enjoy the moment.

Every baby is different. My 1st was a week early and the 2nd 2 weeks late and the 3rd about 8 days late. The only sure thing is the baby will start to come when it is ready. And the labour doesn't necessarily get shorter each time as someone said - believe me! And I ended up with an emergency section with the last one when the other 2 had been natural deliveries, so nothing is sure in child birth!!
Good luck when the time comes!x

the more you have the less time you have to wait. My first labour was 5 hrs, my 2nd labour with twins was 2 & 1/2 hrs & they were a month early, my 1st was 10 days early!

Congratulations!!!!

My first was born at 37 weeks, my 2nd at 34 weeks and my 3rd at 40 weeks so there was no real pattern for me. All my kids were born within an hour and half of my waters breakings. So my labours stayed roughly the same.

Your baby will come when it's ready. All the best. X

I''m not sure if it always works like that. My mum was early with me (I'm her first) and late with my brother (her second).

I'm expecting my first in December so I'll have to see how it works, I'm dreading going overdue as I'm due Decemeber 8th and if I went 14 days overdue I'd face a Christmas spent in hospital! How depressing! I want to be able to be at home with my baby for Xmas, even if I am a bit "out of it" (there are plenty of people to look after me and cook the Christmas dinner etc).

i was 3 weeks early with my son and it was only half hour labour start to finish, but my second was 2 weeks early and labour was slightly longer due to my waters not breaking so it doesn`t mean that your 2ND will be quicker has there could be complications i.e waters not breaking or baby getting stuck. (not saying this to scare you) but something could happen that is beyond your control relax when the day comes and have a healthy labour. good luck.

Every pregnancy and labour is different. I have two sets of twins and I was induced at 9pm with the first two - as they ruptured my placenta - and they were then born at 6am the following morning. With the second two, my waters broke at 5pm and they were born by caesarean, with an epidural, at 6.29 and 6.30pm. (I did NOT want a caesarean but twin one was breach so I had no choice).

Coincidentally, they were all born on a Thursday, at 37 weeks around 6 o'clock ish - two in the morning and two in the evening.

i am expecting my 4th child and from my experience the more you have the more content they are and they do stay in longer. But each pregnancy is different and when they give you the dates it is due to arrive it is only a rough guideline and they can be out by a week or 2
The more you know your period cycle the better the chance to predict the expectancy of bubs. as they are done on the usual 28 day cycle bleed for a week etc the more you know your cycle the better the guess.
So yeah it could be late again

Wow Belynda, 7 kids!!! how do you manage?

I've only had 1 baby so far and I started labor right on my due date but had her 2 days later. I heard generally that with your second baby the labor is easier and faster but as far as going early or going overdue, there's no predicting on that.
