Nothing happened to me. I grew up just fine! It was totally consentual. I was post puberty and capable of making my own decisions.

I'm a democrat by the way... I just don't think the way Foley is being treated is entirely fair. Was he right to do what he did? No. But, he's being treated like Hitler in the media & labeled a pedophile which he is not... (and is not the same as gay)

First, he's actually admitted to being gay. And I agree, chatting with someone old enough to consent isn't really pedophilia. But the reason the media and everyone is making so much fuss is because he's supposed to be a leader in our government, setting examples and living by the laws he's elected to uphold. From a legal standpoint, minors are off limits to adults. Whether it's consentual or not, there is a general idea that adults, especially much older ones, having relationships with minors is predatory. And when you include the fact that it was a same-sex relationship, and many people are as afraid of that as anything else, it only amplifies the situation more.

Thats why I have to laugh when they call him a pedaphile..,for petes sake he wasnt a child he was a freaking teenager and theres alot of them that have whored around.I myself seek someone my own age but guess theres something appealing to the young things.Just another attack and another gay bashing moment for the Dems. This Foley was trying to be discrete until his parents passed away..,he had enough respect to keep it under wraps from his parents and again the democrats hating the way they do has totally screwed up his family. They now have Foley on suicide watch.

"I had sex at 16 with a 32 Yo - no big deal. Why all the Foley madness? Nothing happened to me. I grew up just fine! It was totally consensual. I was post puberty and capable of making my own decisions."

The quick answer to your question is "Foley held a position of trust, authority or supervision in relation to the alleged victim(s) and his conduct may have been in violation of the laws of the District of Columbia and his own state Florida."

There should be no big deal where two people of consenting age and discretion participate in sexual activity in appropriate places. But that isn't exactly the case here.

The age of consent varies from state to state. It appears to be 16 in D.C. But the law in Florida-- the state Mr. Foley represented-- is quite different:

794.05 Unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.--
(1) A person 24 years of age or older who engages in sexual activity with a person 16 or 17 years of age commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. As used in this section, "sexual activity" means oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by, or union with, the sexual organ of another; however, sexual activity does not include an act done for a bona fide medical purpose.

Of course, there are also several other states that have an age of consent greater than 16 years of age. Basically, Mr. Foley was (allegedly) violating the social norms of his own state and that of several other states. And for that, he will be attacked and criticized.

Also, in the workplace there is no distinction of age made in cases of sexual harassment. Congress-persons are in a position of authority over the pages and consequently, those people are entitled to the same level of protection as any employee in any company. You have a right to be free from sexual advances and harassment from your boss even where you might consent to them out of fear for your position.

The example you provided is an Apple to Mr. Foley's Orange and does not lend well to comparison.
