My guess is that its the guitar cord. Jiggle it around. Does the sound come on and then maybe go out again? If so, you have a short in the cord.

First thing to check is the lead to the amp that you are using. Next check the jack socket on the guitar, sometimes the nut that hold this in place becomes loose, making it possible for the solder joins to the jack socket to break.
If none of the above, take it to a qualified guitar repairer

i had similar gremlins with my epi les paul too but its not too much of a big deal, its either usually a poor connection at the jack socket or a switch, open her up and have a look around inside, whilst plugged in operrate the switch and volume controls etc see if it makes any difference as you move the wires around inside, as lond as you're not too heavy handed you wont cause any damage as the electrics are pretty simple in there, you might wanna keep a soldering iron handy tho to repair any loose wires you might find :)

try another lead first as cheapest to replace. Could be the pickups playing up or a faulty jack. Your local guitar shop should be able to advise

I had a cheap beginner's guitar, and it was so cheap, that the wire leading to the jack would fall out. So I had to unscrew the panel and hook it up again. That may be it.

Wires on underneath the chrome part on your guitar have been spun. Whatever that means. My hubby told me. He's a rock-star.
