I have 2 laptops now I love the fact that I can go everywhere with them. I think u should get a laptop or notebook. They are great and don't worry b/c people say desktops r better in gaming. its not true. Get an HP for 1,500 and its perfect for everything.

Well lets see- my first answer to you would be that I wouldn't normally say BETTER then desktops, but definitely easily portable.
A great idea would be to do this... I bought a laptop and an expansion base. The retail is $250 for the base alone. but I got mine on ebay for like $30 . It is the best purchase I have made in a long time. I love the base because I can totally leave the wires connected to it. and then when I need my laptop just disconnect from the base- real easy cuz it just slides in.
The base comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse so what is great is that u can sit back and type away if you dont want to lean over the keyboard. I love the laptop also - simply because I can take it with me - it comes with DVD- so on the road I can watch movies. I also have a wireless data plan with my cell phone company and works just as good as when I had a wireline. and dsl --
I know what I like and need and I hope this gave some insight--
what else do u need it for and how portable to you want to be...
good luck- but in my opinion -YES laptops are better.
I do have a very small desktop with not much in it so that I can use it as a network server for other computers in the house and the other benefits to a desktop are larger harddrives can be purchased...

It depends on what you like. I like laptops better, because they are cheaper, and you can get an i7 laptop for as low as 650$ and these laptops are said to be as fast or faster than an i5 desktop. Also, like every one said, you can move around easily with them, and some people claim that there are all day long laptop batteries. With desktops, there are some that are faster than any laptop, but they cost a lot. Also, if there is any blackout, even just a 5 or 10 minute blackout, you lose all your work! So I would recommend an i7 laptop.

If you need to move around alot or want to then a laptop would be great. I have 3 desktops in my house and 1 laptop. I almost always use my laptop for your exact reason. Now desktops are genuinely faster CPU, most laptop CPU's are locked at a certain clock rate so the CPU does not get to hot since they do not have the same amount of fans pushing/pulling out all the hot air the CPU creates. So it totally depends on what kind of benefits you really need.

The advantage of using a laptop is, as you rightly said, being to move around freely.
The advantage of having a desktop is that for the same amount of money or even less, you get much more power and features.
I used to have a company laptop that I also used from home. It was indeed convenient to use it wherever I wanted to. However, when it came to buying something for personal use, I decided to go for the desktop and I did not regret it. I prefer speed and features much more.
Although laptops nowadays are also quite powerful, they are still far behind in capacity for limited spending power.
Being confined to one place can also mean, you're undisturbed...

Laptops are more complicated. Every hardware engineer can easily repair a desktop but not a laptop. Utility wise Laptop is more handy however a desktop is better at home. I carry a Laptop at office but a desktop at home. Reason being that the Laptop helps me to give presentation at office & at clients place but When at Home I prefer a Desktop

Constant laptop use will strain your eyes more than a computer hooked to a true monitor. The laptop monitor is a midrange plasma, not intended for more than sporadic use. That's not a popular opinion, but as a daily computer user, I am hyper-aware of issues regarding vision fatigue and monitors. If you plan on even 3 hours a day use, get the real thing.

All the performances of any laptop are lowest than a desktop with the same parameters. The only advantage in owing a laptop is that it's mobile and you can take it with you wherever you go.
