We are retired and don't do much. I like PhotoShop more than anything. Our computer now is very slow, and just want faster. We have the service, but a service man said we needed a new computer. I have about 2,000 pictures, and like to do pictures for the family, and family albums. Just regular stuff, banking online, turbo tax, emails, nothing really involved. Brousing the internet, etc. Thanks.

purchase any computer that has the storage/processing requirements that you want (don't worry about ram) (probably about $300-$400 (I got a computer, and moniter at walmart for $500 and the moniter was $189... still have yet to buy my ram, it was a compaq 80GB... just for doing word processing/web/financial stuff)

Then after you get it, purchase as much ram as the computer will hold.... this will give you a cheap computer, and should be under your $700 budget

Ram is about $120 for 1024 MB of pc3200 ddr.... win xp requires a bare minimum of 256MB, so stock up on it... then sell the other sticks that you took out of the computer on ebay.

stick with brands like HP, Dell, Compaq(just because HP now owns them), Sony

stay away from e-machines unless you know about computers, you may have to do some work on it.

If I was once you I'd try to steer clear of the pics chips which are constructed at the motherboard. I checked the bestbuy internet site and observed this: Lenovo - IdeaCentre Desktop - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive Model: K330-77472LU and I could couple it with: Radeon HD 7770 that you must be competent to uncover for round $one hundred twenty five.00 btw I use to be a HUGE AMD fan, however the Core I3 and up Intel chips simply ruin the AMD chips proper now. which with tax and all could take you just about $seven hundred (I selected that pics card due to the fact that it should not have any challenge with sims three, plus it must be competent to run off the energy deliver within the lenovo laptop.

there is no thing like "best computer" .. there is good and there is bad, but not "best" .. because "best" is determined by your needs .. if you going to play games then you need great video card, if you're going to do mathematical things then you need great processor, etc ..

about gettin the most possible for any given money, i would suggest assembling the machine by yourself

get the parts separately and assemble, so you can control where to spend your money most and what exactly to buy ..

again, for example, if it's for gaming mainly, then you may want to spend some 300-400 on a video thing, and the rest for the rest .. but if it is for heavy processing things (runing calculations, databases, etc), then you will probably spend the most of money on CPU and the motherboard

just anyway, your best choice is always to buy the parts and assemble yourself

I would recommend the Dell E521 line, I am really impressed with the value of that line right now. I will be more than happy to assist you with specific specs, but email me if you want me too. I used to just take the time to list them out here, but alot of people just ignore it, so I wait until people send me the email before taking the time. Email is in my profile.
