Enough to maintain a free chlorine residual of 1.5- 3.0 ppm after oxidation of a majority of organics present in the water. The actual amount can depend on temperature, total dissolved solids present,Ph, total alkalinity and a few other factors and varies from pool to pool.

im not for sure but my swim coach loads it into the pool! ha ha ha!! lol--but enought to make sure the pool stays pretty clean
