"The Taliban has taken control large parts of the countryside, more than 3,000 people have been killed in rising violence this year, and militants have been assassinating political figures, burning down schools and creating havoc with roadside bombs."
Militants are the ones killing "political figures". Now who does Rummy think these political figures are....judges, policemen? Who knows which rose colored glasses he has on today?
Are these the new Taliban or the old Muhajeden, that were our friends so long they made it into both James Bond and Ramo movies?
The denial appears to include the AP and the reporter.
Who could write and print this stuff without more questions?
Remember, this is the same administration who didn't know, two months before invading Iraq, that Sunnis and Shiites were not the same sect.
How does Rummy get away with the notion that Afghanistan is making progess when he doesn't even know that players?

Let the leaders lead, give full support,
Regard with honor, hold up the fort,
The wagging tongue is a fool's pride,
Boasting ignorance, far and wide.
Tis easy to let good men fall?
A word such as yours doesn't help us at all!
They fight a good fight, though misunderstood
Often maligned, the just and the good.
Defamed and assulted by all that they do.
Denial or what? A "quiter's"spew.

Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld are now living in a hellish dreamworld of their own creation, and they seem hell-bent (pun intended) on making it worse and worse.
