Remove all the contents of the bookcase and sprinkle a light, dry layer of bicarbonate of soda on each of the shelves, close the doors and leave for at least a day. Check and if the smell has gone - just hoover or brushe the bicarb away. Don't know what it is about the bicarb but it does absorb smells and leaves everything odour free.
Same goes for deodorising a fridge - leave an egg cupful of dry bicarb as a permanent fridge content
and cleaning a fridge - make a small solution and wipe the insides and the shelving with this solution.

Get the fabreeze air effects that plug into the wall. They have one that is supposed to not only make the room smell good but attack bacteria, its Orange. My sons room always smelled like a foot, and that's what I put in there it works good. Also maybe smell the carpet if you have any, if so may consider steam cleaning it. Carpet can get musty and even mold smell. Don't use the powder carpet stuff, all it does is sink down into the rug and create dust type allergies. Good luck and nothing wrong with being a clean guy

Buy a 2 lb. can of decent coffee grounds, and leave it open in your bookcase atleast one month or one good temperture change. It works in cars that have water damage, it has to leave a better smell in your bookcase, good luck.

Remove everything from the book case, wipe all the surfaces clean with hot water and a cupful of white vinegar. Then polish everything using PLEDGE ORIGINAL furniture polish. This is the best for all wooden furniture as it has the least chemicals.

You won't be sorry.......good luck!
