ha! that is a trick question! 1. honesty 2. communication 3. respect for each other (this includes the family members you cant stand but your mate insists on having over) 4.always remeber what it felt like when you knew that this was the person for you ( I always remember that first kiss wow wee!) 5. it helps if you both have strong spiritual connections and can share that with each other. I have been married for 11 years now and we have had many tough times but as long as i can remember what that first kiss was like i know we can work thru almost anything. YOu also have to be willing to forgive and to trust.

In order of importance.
1. Maturity of the Self
2. Belief system.
3. Love
4.Communication.
5. trust.
THe first 2 deals with the individual - you cant hope to be in a stable relationship if you yourself is not a stable/mature person.
the 3 45 deal with the relationship itself. 3. you must know what you love about the other person. 4, you have to communicate that love. and 5, the establishment of trust and understanding.

#1 FAITH- Believe that you are worthy to be loved, just as you love that other person. Be able to love yourself too.
#2 UNCONDITIONAL LOVE- Can you imagine not having the eyes to physically see who you love, but only what you feel? It NEVER works when one goes into a relationship under premeditated conditions and ulterior motives. You must go into a relationship free from expectations from that other person and willing to give MORE than receive. This is considered unconditional love.
#3 TRUST- Love is never solid without trust.
#4 SELF IDENTITY- Never fall into a relationship, later to lose your identity in the process. Life is too short to allow someone else to take away all that makes you happy. No one is worth changing for. Especially if they don't love you, for "YOU".
#5 SPACE- I can't think of one person in the world who doesn't appreciate a little space. This is always good from the getgo. Having your own friends is healthy. Don't let anyone stop you from having your own things and personal space or privacy, especially when it's therapeutic and harmless to you and others.

To build a relationship definitely you need trust then that relationship can be further maintained on - love & affection. One has to be very reliable/ honest to continue. One must also respect eachothers point of view/ thought. All above factors can only lead to a healthy and long lasting relationship.

That's all you need. Besides love, of course, but that should really be a given. Although...sometimes, I really don't like my husband, so what keeps me going is the 3 Coms.
