You like punk? Check out anything by The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, The Damned, The New York Dolls, Buzzcocks, Black Flag, and a good alternative/punk band called The Offspring. All these bands (except The Offspring) are true classic punk, the original punk rock. Kickass music, dude! The Sex Pistols and The Ramones are my fave punk bands ever!

I wouldn't classify Metallica as punk or alternative rock - I think they would be more metal or heavy rock.

The Sex Pistols are widley regarded as punks most original band.
The Clash are a perfect example of a alternative rock band flame-out.
Personally, I hate the Ramones, but they are important too.
Then there are the modern bands Blink 182, MXPX, and Sum 41, to name a few.
