We have other energy sources. The problems arise in cost and return factors except with nuclear energy which is fought by the green lobby. Funny how green France is using nuclear power plants.
With bio-fuel, the expense of turning corn or soybean into fuel is higher than buying crude and turning that into fuel.

the government won't be able to make money if they develope something cheaper and efficient.
Same reason why cancer and other diseases won't have cures. Just think of the billions in lost revenue if the pharms and hospitals have no patients? They rather treat the symptoms than find the cure. There's no money in curing.
Also, think about the floral/funeral/crematory industry. Far less people to buy caskets/flowers/burn/bury.
Social security will run out of funds quickly as everyone will live much longer.
Auto industry is in the same boat. They could build cars that won't rust or wear out.
Welcome to the real world. Have a nice day!

The folks that sell petroleum based energy have not figured out how to sell sunlight, geo-thermal, or wind produced energy. Also, the government hasn't figured out how to tax the usage; that would leave a terrible gap in revenue that they have become dependent on.

they already are found, but large monopols wont allow to use them, because that would decrease their profit. you know, they cant force you to pay for sun energy, you only pay for solar panels once and thats all. Why are you so cruel and want all those good, nice and friendly rich people go broke, huh? :-D
