It seems that this guy is totally messed up - alcoholic, pedophiliac, closeted gay, Catholic molestation victim and compulsive liar.
So is it any wonder that gay rights activists have always considered the "family values" campaign to be just a bunch of thinly disguised homophobia.

There are pedofiles that would be pedofiles no matter what. With pedofiles, it's all about power, not about sex -- whether it's a same sex or opposite sex victim. However I do believe we will continue to have Mark Foleys as long as "we" as a nation continue to demonize and deny rights to the LGBT community.
If Mark Foley and countless others didn't feel like they had to bash gays and tout their fake family values in order to gain and retain their position and social standing - then maybe they would be free to be who they are. Hopefully then they'd be free to love who they love. Hopefully then they wouldn't feel they have to sneak around and act out their hidden desires on a kid, because usually kids don't tell. BUT jilted lovers might -- and the secret would be out.
If we could just get past they whole gay stigma, I believe society would look at a pedofile for what they are and not blame it on being a gay pervert. There are far more girls that are molested by men that we never hear about. We only hear about the dirty b******s all over the news when there is a gay aspect to it.

Come on good people, OK the poor fellow, Mark Foley, is kaputt. And for sure the things he has done are reprehensible and i guess many things you, i and all of us have done we regret. I just hope the people who shout murder loudest will not fall of their pedestal one day. Activists gay or otherwise always love to do the: " I told you so, I am better than thou". This from a fellow who dislikes, gays, paedophiles and hypocrites. A fellow who likes a schooner or two, does not mind Catholics but dislikes the holier than you attitude. Oi, live and let live !

His perversion has nothing to do with his political views. Also, his perversion has nothing to do with being gay. Even if society accepts being gay, it's not going to accept pedophelia. The last time I checked, there was no correlation betwee being a Democrat, Republican, or Independent and the preference for young boys.

Yes, this is where "Family Values" has led us.
Men who are gay are forced, by our culture,to live their life in lies in order to appear "normal. The constant looking over ones shoulder leads to a warping of their natural proclivity to people of their own gender.
People who are attracted to minors are generally in need of power over their attractions. Like rape and incest, pedophilia is about power. Remove the choice from homosexuals to live normally, and their attraction warps into a seeking of power over others more vulnerable than themselves.
First it was the priests, now the congressmen. Men like Foley will continue to pop up as long as we repress homosexual men to warp their desires from simple attraction to the opposite sex to attraction to helpless victims.
