Why aren't there grocery stores attached to indoor shopping malls?

Maybe this is just a midwest thing, but why don't shopping malls have grocery stores? It seems like you could first do your clothes shopping and then buy groceries for home without having to get in the car, drive somewhere else, and then get out.

if you bought groceries in a mall, you'd have to get the groceries home to the fridge, and wouldnt have time to look around, or if you waited to get the groceries till after you were done with mall shopping, you'd probably be all tired from shopping all together to look for groceries.........


also malls are crowded enough, imagine trying to find a parking space with not only the regular mall crowd, but the mall crowd *plus* the grocery shopper crowd o.O;;

malls have always been a fun place to relax , hang out with friends, and have fun.......why ruin it with a grocery store? filled with frantic mothers, screaming babies, other crabby people etc,

alot of stores might lose business as most of the st ores in malls suit the younger generations, and what teens would want to go to a mall where their mothers will be grocery shopping at?

Here in New Mexico, there are grocery stores attatched to some smaller malls! It's because Mall builders believe that if you buy perishable items, you will be anxious to leave the mall and go home to put up your items, but if you have only non-perishable items, you will drag your feet a little longer, be tempted to make one more impulse purchase, have something to eat or drink before you leave...all in the name of commerce.

Most new malls being built in the east and throughout Canada now have large "Superstores" which carry a full line of groceries.
I'm sure it will catch up out there too. Just wait until a mew mega mall is built in your area.

the idea of a super market arrived in our society long before the mall.........seems like a good idea though.
