Welcome to the wonderful world of Pentium Chips (before dual core).

1. Take the side off (please unplug first) and look at the processor fan. Is the grill underneath chocked full of dust, take off the fan (not the heat sink!) and use a paint brush (not vacuum) to clear it out.

2. Plug it in again, does the fan sound rough or is it vibrating, if so you will need a new one.

3. Do you have any case cooling fans, I would suggest 2, the first at the front blows air into the case the one at the back extracts the warm air.

4. Make sure the machine is free standing and there is no clutter around it which could clock the ventilation or insulate the case.

5. Ensure that all drives are as far away from the processor as possible as these generate heat.

6. Ensure all your internal cables are neatly stashed and they allow for the best circulation of air.

7. If the BIOS reader is thought to be incorrect see if there is an update on the motherboards website but beware BIOS updates can make your motherboard unusable.

8. As a stop gap just try taking the side off you PC to let more air in.

Hope this helps

Even without any additional system fan or thermal grease, it is vry abnormal to have the CPU running at such a high temperature. In fact, the system shouldn't be able to boot at all to protect itself from overheating.

It could either be a sensor problem or the fact that for a 775 socket CPU, u need to ensure all four fan sockets are locked in tightly to the motherboard, expecially the last one u locked in as it might feel tight but it's only partial in which results in incomplete contact with the processor.

Because its speed is 3 ghz, it works faster and harder so it heats up, get a processor fan and install it it will cool down the CPU, buy one because even there is a fan preinstalled, it will not keep the whole system cool

uh, i think u should shut off ur comp before you cpu blows. even if it is running that fast, you should not be at that high temp. if you have a heatsink, redo it and check to see if you have thermal grease applied. i redid mines 2 days ago because it was 86celcius, and found out i did not apply enough grease. go to the store and buy "arctic silver 5." it is the best grease availible. make sure you use enough to cover the chip, otherwise it would not be effective.
