For me, it would be my mom and dad.

Corny, yes.

But honestly, who else could it be?

My mom taught me how to read and write. I wouldn't write poetry or read if it wasn't for her. She taught me how to not act in certain situations... She taught me how to cook potato pancakes and chicken soup. She taught me countless things...

My dad taught me serious life lessons.... like not to be ignorant or arrogant. He taught me how to live my life without caring about others and what they think. He taught me how to take everything with a grain of salt and to never stop questioning. He taught me how to keep my mind open. And he taught me how to never lose my sense of adventure. And i would not love the Oldies if it wasn't for him. I grew up with the BeeGees and Buddy Holly and the Beatles and the Pretenders and the Beach Boys and now i have a deep love for all of them....

And what they both taught me was kindness and compassion.

What about you?

Definitely my parents. My father teaches philosophy, so he taught me how to think critically and not just accept truth that was handed down. I was exposed to so many of his varied interests growing up... he's a writer, potter, bee keeper, wine lover, scotch drinker, tea expert. Both my parents are also fairly left wing, which probably shaped my political thinking. My mother is a professional harpist so she taught me a lot about music. I used to sit outside our sun porch when I was little and listen to her play. She also happens to be one of the strongest, most resilient people I know. She taught me a lot about compassion and moral courage. I've seen her stop and talk to some lost soul on the street, rather than just walk on past. She once confronted a man in an underground parking lot who had just stabbed another man. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but the police said she probably saved the other guy's life.

I would have to say my father, if it wasn't for him I would be in the wrong path right now. Because of him I am who I am today, a strong, caring, always trying to help someone out, mature, resposible person, he taught me not to take everything for granted, to go after my dreams not caring what others think, just do whatever makes you happy. And I love him very much for that.

Very sweet thing to write. I enjoyed reading it. My father has always made the strongest impression on my life. Always listening, giving sound advise, or lending a hand when needed. Where would I be without him? Nowhere.

my husband! that's why i married him. he has made the strongest lasting impression in my life, he helped find me when i was lost, and build me back up again. he's part of who i am, my personality, my hopes, and my dreams. he's taught me to love myself for who i am, because no matter what i am, he will always love me. he taught me the life lessons of inner beauty, trust, love, and selflessness. those qualities about him are priceless and irreplaceable.

I would have to say my mom too. She taught me with words and with her actions and now I am very much like her and very proud of it.
