Ton Cruise's character is filthy rich.

Cameron Diaz is his jealous ex lover.

Penelope Cruz is the girl he is now interested in.

Cameron Diaz crashes her car into Tom Cruise's car turning him into a ugly disfigure person. they can't fix his face.

He goes to this cryogenic laboratory and is put to sleep. they give him a dream that his face is fixed and that he is in love with Penelope Cruz only something goes wrong with the dream and Tom thinks he has Killed Penelope. The fact is that it has been some 50 years since he was put to sleep and she is long time dead. Kurt Russell is only there to try and get him back on course but the dream is a failure so technical support has to go in and tell him what his options are, either he can resume the dream or not. They can now fix his face and he can live out the rest of his life even though his money is now all gone.

When he jumps off the building he is accepting the option to wake up and finish off his life penniless rather than stay asleep and think he is still rich. He chooses reality over illusion. EOS.

Vanilla Sky
Who's in it? Penelope Cruz , Cameron Diaz , Alicia Witt , Jason Lee , Steven Spielberg , Noah Taylor , Jennifer Gimenez

What's it about? A rich womanizer (Cruise) falls in love with his best friend's (Lee) girlfriend. The next day, he is in a car with a previous and fiercely jealous conquest, who commits suicide by driving the car into a tree. The bachelor survives the crash, but with his face hideously disfigured. Soon, however, his luck seems to change completely: the friend's girl declares her love for him and the doctors are suddenly able to rebuild his face. However, when strange and horrible things begin to happen, he starts to realize that his life has taken on a turn beyond his control.

The movie's built-in problem is severe enough to lick a Cruise, a Cruz and Camerons of both sexes. What works in a quirky foreign film can look silly with expansive Hollywood treatment. Crowe is smart enough to know this, so it's baffling he chose Vanilla over richer cinematic tastes.

Drowning in pop images, amid dozens of musical references, "Vanilla Sky" goes careening across the screen, flying from one contradiction to the next. Crowe is a highly gifted director and Cruise is no slouch when it comes to making movies, but the two have miscalculated with "Vanilla Sky." They jerk the audience's collective chain once too often while they flash back and forth between what is and isn't real -- leaving viewers stuck somewhere between confusion and contempt.

What they said. I think they've explained it very well.
It was a remake the Spanish (I think) film called "Abre los ojos" or "Open Your Eyes". It also had Penelope Cruz in it. The original is probably a little better than Vanilla Sky, but they are very similar so it depends whether you can bothered reading subtitles or not.

he got in a wreck, couldn't live knowing he let the one love get away. he has himself frozen and put into dreamland.. the dream goes wrong, he's been froze for many years, penelope cruz already got old and died. they wanted to know if he wanted to remain asleep or go into the real world, not that they had the technology to fix his face.. so he goes into the world.. he was sooooo vein,. that was the problem

Xenu sent Tom back in time to before the crash, then he woke up in an Amsterdam bordello, and decided to shave his chest once and for all.

A word of advice: Solaris would probably make your heads implode.

I really didn't like that movie. It wasn't one of Tom's best ones that is for sure.
