what ever america does or doesnt do, China will be the next superpower both financially and militarily, it may even quickly eclipse America. There is always an element of superpower envy. Some of the things America has done are bizzaire, and on hindsight embarassing, it often doesnt get credit for things it has done which have benefitted the reat of the world. Its an easy target for those politically opposed to America (those laregly on the left) and the free market system , some is just political envy (eg France)
it possible America may instigate a war, but I doubt it will be to protect its world dominance. Its possible it may go to war to stop Iran building numes... but deep down I doubt it. The one potential risk I can see is that Israel may do soemthing about it, and on the back of that America may get dragged in.

War serves two purposes for the Bush regime. One is to stifle any domestic protest or disagreement, to suspend civil rights. The other is it enables them to rape and pillage other countries, taking whatever they want while enriching their cronies in the military/industrial complex.
More than 60% of Americans disapprove of Bush's presidency. But this doesn't matter since he controls the way votes are counted by Electronic Voting Machines that cannot have ballots verified.
If he does not start a major war, the rate at which his administration is borrowing money will bankrupt the U.S.
Either the American people will find a way to stop him (Bush is actually just a figurehead for a neo-fascist conspiracy), or America will become impoverished.
In any case, the superpowers of the future are China and India. China has the only successful space program in the world today. Some day it will become clear to everyone how much satellites and space missions determine the military effectiveness of a nation.

Well, i am not an American but i have travelled in many European countries and spoken with people. The world doesn't hate America but hats wars. A war is a war in any way you look at it. And no one would go to a war unless they would gain something. It is just that the people believe that the war is done to face terrorism which gives the politicians the red light to bring forward their plans and the real interests that they have hiding behind this war. What many Europeans believe is that American people have been terified not only by the 9/11 which is a fact but also from what they hear in the news every day by their goverment and teryfies them even more. This policy has the result to control people using their fear and under the mask of terorism to let them do whatever they want and even to take fundamental human rigths from their citizens too.
We hate American policy but we feel pity for American people who claim so openly that they live in a free country when they are so terrified and anxious everyday and they say yes to whatever they are told as long as it has in front the title 'it is against terrorism'.

No they wont nobody gains in a world war but they wont stand by and watch Innocent people die through terrorism.
I personally believe that Islamic preachings has become a scourge on society and what these clerics are doing in the name of god is absurd I'm not religious but in our bible nowhere does it say go out and let your children murder innocent people over stupid things like being outspoken and freedom.
if this did happen a world war i mean then i think China has the capability but again they are not a democratic country either so i think were stuffed if we don't back the USA.
I agree with MORA China will come forward when she knows the time is right lets face it we all have 2-3 million Chinese already in our countries just waiting quietly in the background no body has any problems with them they obey the laws of the country their in and sit in the background on the other hand islamists are throwing there weight around and killing as they go.

Ask yourself how do i go about making sure that no one becomes a superpower. The workers and ordinary people have to see their similarities We dont need countries or (im sorry) fanatical religion. We need true self government Or what is called pre 1930's Anarchy..
Pre 1930 because anarchy had a good name till the western capitalist changed the meaning after the spanish revolution.

If there was a next world war and America was sure that they were going to be under nuclear attack. They have missiles poised for every country that could be a threat to them. The UK being one of them. Americas tactic is fire first and ask questions later. They are so busy making waves with countries that possibly have weapons of mass destruction but they themselves have them sitting there ready and waiting for the inevitable. In the case of a world war, America will have no allies as they will be for themselves. It doesn't matter if they have the UK in their pocket for the time being. Look to countries like Korea who have the ability to fire their missiles but my monies on the quiet countries like Japan. They are so technically advanced and we don't hear a whisper of out them but it's the quiet ones with the real reason for revenge that could possibly pull something out of their pocket when least expected. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer still.

Slow down! America will only decline if and when there is no where else to outsource anymore. Who's fighting this war beside Osama? People will always hate America, the hatred only lessens for short periods of time. Trust me, there is no next superpower. Just a bunch of wannabees like Chavez.

And IRAN will do that with unprovoked Nuclear Attack on the State of Israel.
Re next superpower....who knows.....could be China but that will take a while ...AFTER INDIA AND PAKISTAN have at each other....with nukes most likely.

Had to leave, so I've missed the boat for this question, but maybe someone will be checking back in....
Most U.S. Americans don't understand the nature of their country's empire/colonializing habits. Only occasionally is it military-based, like Iraq and Afghanistan, or political, like most of South and Central America; it is always economic-based, often carried along by 'culture' (Coke, McDonald's, Ford, film, bad TV, good TV, etc).
As an ex-pat, I get to see and hear a lot of Europeans' opinions of the U.S. and its citizens. There's some prejudice and partially-informed opinions, but those are actually predominantly pro-U.S. What I encounter far more of is intelligent thought about the role that the U.S. has taken on for itself in the world.
Consider it this way, if the U.S. is a great country, it is because the founders understood the need for a system of checks and balances to prevent any one branch of government from becoming too powerful. The current executive branch (President and co.) is working hard to undermine that in the U.S., this fact is clear to any who bother to pay attention to their actions, especially re legislation. The world needs that sort of check and balance amongst countries as well. But internal propaganda (Fox News et al) works hard to undermine this as well -- legitimate criticism and debate is cast as 'unpatriotic' or 'hating America' and dismissed as irrelevant.
The U.S. has shown clearly that it will try to dominate through small wars, control of resources and control of global economic systems. Do you realise that the U.S. funds its $3.5 TRILLION debt through cash reserves created by oil being priced in dollars? France and Iraq had made an agreement to price oil in euros -- the U.S. dealt with Iraq by invading, France by that absurd smear campaign. And of course, the U.S. deals with its citizens by feeding them misinformation.
The answer above sums it up nicely -- many Europeans see the problems that U.S. cultural imperialism causes throughout the world and legitimately and intelligently criticise it. But in general, there's a lot of sympathy for the people who have to suffer under its lies and propaganda.
