Who the hell said that?
Foreigner can purchase real estate in Japan. Basically no confinement, as long as you have money.

1) You need to report the fact in 20 days to the Finance ministry that you bought the real estate.
2) Need to pay some tax regarding to the real estate.

That's all.

In other Asian countiries, foreigner can rent the land only, including Japanese.

My wife's from Japan, born and raised... even THEY have a REALLY hard time owning thier own land.

I have no problem with any country not allowing non-citizens to own land... wish more countries did that.
