I'm simply fed up with all the fancy bogus that's costing me an arm and a leg to fix on my car, stuff nobody even knows what it really does. I want to find a car, gladly an old one if that's what it takes, that's built with almost nothing in it, and runs and runs and runs. Any ideas? Late 70s Toyota Landcruiser, maybe? What might work?

70 - 80 toyota pick-up will last forever with proper maintanence, however they will break from time to time like any other car. I have a friend whos toyota is going on 300,000 miles wih only one head job. My 89 honda civic went 180,000 with no problems, then the trans went.

An air-cooled Volkswagen Bug is about as simple as a car can get. They're fairly reliable, but there is a trade-off: The parts are cheaper to replace, but need adjustment a lot more often.
