My g/f & I are afraid that my future mother in law will use our marriage as an extortion to get even with me.I am really hoping she will STOP all the ill-treating to the maid.

You don't say what she is doing. But I assume it must be illegal--like beating her or something. You have to follow your conscience on this. And I commend you. If it is so serious that you are possibly willing to jeopordize your relationship and marriage than it must be serious.

I suggest first that you confront the future mother in law and tell her your intentions. Tell your gf this is what you are going to do and ask her to join you in it. If that does not get results report her.

I do not want to badmouth someone I don't know--but if your gf does not understand this--she may not be the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

You have a good set of conscience, however it may be more helpful if your strong views find agreement with your girlfriend first. She is in a better position to confront her mom than you. If your girlfriend understands your goodness and pain in this matter, she should feel strong enough to confront her mother. Her mother need not know that you initiated the action. I think your girlfriend should consider herself fortunate to be marrying a gentleman with a right set of conscience that help preserves the dignity of people in need.

Honestly, if your girlfriend really loves you she would abide by your decision, what ever it is, and it depends on what the bad treatment is, if it is physical abuse then you should have no hesitation in reporting it.If it is verbal abuse then it is obvious that she keeps the maid aroud to be her whipping post.If you want to be your own man then I would confront her and find out what the problem is between them, then you might just understand what it is that you have to do

Report it
No body should be treated badly.
Would her mother report it if you were mistreating her daughter.
Could you live in a family that allowed this to happen.
Will your children see this.
Its not going to go away, unless you make it.

Wow, that is a tough one. Maybe if it bothers you, you should confront the mother directly, since you are becoming a part of her family.
