About 3000. A few are definitely ephemeral, and of their own time, but I keep them precisely because of that. The rest are all loved, in most cases adored. There are books I would like to have but don't (like my Plato which my father lost many years ago, so I keep the space in the set to remember the dear feller by). And I still occasionally buy book/s, usually 2nd hand, when I really should not as my eyesight is failing ... and I know that when I die my family will probably sell the whole collection because though very intelligent, and aware of books, they reckon they don't have space for them. So I'm marking the "do not sells" for my grandchildren to discover, like unexpected friends - and as for the rest, I'll just have to think of their future as blossoms blown on the wind of chance, into the loving hands of others. After all, like people, we can never truly "own" a book.

I have TONS!! And I am still trying to expand it! I love all sorts of books, so if you (or anyone) can recommend some for me, that would be awesome! Oh, and I saw that you got A Million Little Pieces. Although all that stuff is going on with James Frey (the author), it's still a really really really good book. I don't care if he lied or made up some parts, it just adds to the book! But anyways, since you will be reading that, also check out My friend Leonard by James Frey. That one is also really really good. They just came out with it in paperback, so it's cheaper. But it's pink and has an ashtray on the front cover. Very good book!

My collection takes up a whole wall in my bookroom and another 1/2 wall. That's where I have my reading chair and ottoman with bookmarks stacked, ready to use.
In the guest room, I have a wall of bookshelves, but these aren't full yet.
I just came home from the library booksale with two bags of books that I'll have to fit in somewhere. They were just 25 cents and $1 each. What a deal. I'll never be finished collecting books. Now and then, I pare down the collection to make room for more.

Mine isn't too big, but I have a lot of books that are important to me. Much of my collection is Stephen King, who I've loved since I was thirteen. I also have the Left Behind series, several Garfield books, a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, plenty of poetry including Yeats, Walt Whitman, and Allen Ginsberg. I have some biographies, Princess Diana for one; a book by Tom Robbins called 'Still Life With Woodpecker', and I have a bunch of Nora Roberts books for when I feel like a romance novel - I started reading those when I was pregnant.
I'd love to collect more books, but I don't have much money these days for things like that. When I do manage to buy some books, I head to a little used shop downtown where I live - the place is packed from floor to ceiling with all kinds of different books, I love it!

I think I have a few hundred, but I don't know for sure. Never counted. They are mostly from 2nd hand stores where they are quite inexpensive and sometimes look brand new. Library book sales are also great ways to get more books while helping support your local library at the same time. I would consider my collection large because they are spilling of my shelves and they get in my way , which is annoying, but I couldn't go without them

It isn't the size of the collection that matters a whit-- it's how much of it actually penetrates your brain and stays there long enough to be of use. I have too many books and am trying to get rid of many. A library should be lean and hard-working. Why are you acquiring junk like "A Million Little Pieces" and "Memoirs of a Geisha?" Read a lot but be selective about what earns space on your shelves.

I currently have 2,758 items in my library. It's a little more than doubled in size over the last five years. I hit the bookstores at least one a month and the local library has a used book sale twice a year where I usuall come home with at least 25 books. I'm the definition of bibliophile, I love to read and collect books.

I haven't counted in a long time, but I have 1500 - 2000 books, and more in storage in my Mom's attic. More seem to slither in all the time! :-))
They are EVERYWHERE....on tables, on the floor, in the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room, and the bedroom.
I read and re-read them, all the time! I can't be bothered too much with TV. I far prefer to read!
I have floor to ceiling shelves, and a book case in the bedroom. Some of the shelves are filled side-to-side, then have another row of books, in front of that! :-)) Some of them are stacked up on the floor.
History, novels, science fiction, science, mysteries, psychology, biographies, dictionaries - you name it! Everything from Steven Pinker to Stephen King! :-))
I love to read!
When people ask me to choose one word to describe myself, I usually say "bookworm."
The only "one thing" I *might* have spent more hours of my life doing than reading is sleeping (and that includes all the hours I've spent at work - I always have a full-time job!), and I'm not too sure about that!
*********
I have Memoirs Of A Geisha, The Five People You Meet In Heaven (not Tuesdays With Morrie), and A Million Little Pieces, too, and I enjoyed reading them! Not the best I've ever read, but quite interesting!
It IS quite a pain when I move, but my family always helps me. In fact, they tell me that they will be offended if I do not ask them to help! They are so sweet! :-))
I simply cannot live without my books (and my cats)!
If you need more books, buy them used at http://www.amazon.com or http://www.ebay.com ;-))
