Your vent hood should have a filter. it is going to be a metal mesh like screen it veries in size. It keeps majority of the grease from being suck up and lining the walls of the ducting. When you go to change it the best thing is to take the old one with you to your favorite home improvement store, because there are alot of sizes out there, so you need to make sure you geqt the right one. Other than that change the light bulb. Hood vent 101!

painted?, don't scratch paint, wash filters ( dishwasher may shorten life ), not too much liquid on motor - if stainless steel, it's pretty hard to screw up.
