Cousins... okay... I've had a few tonight, so that took me a minute. Anyway, in most of the US as well as other countries, allow the 3rd cousins and up to marry. Of course, for generations, the European royalty did that too... and they watched their IQ's slowly go down the drain.
There are some countries and/or communities in which there aren't a lot of people, so they eventually have to resort to marrying relatives of some kind. I don't see a problem with this, but that's just me. If a group of people want to survive, occassionally they'll have to resort to inbreeding. Hell, I dated a guy once and we tracked our family trees back until we found that we were... I think, 15th cousins, 18 times removed. See? Even in a world of over 600 billion people, we still end up hooking up with SOMEONE we're related to. Basically, this all leads up to me rambling and saying "Its not bad, its just not necessarily good."

yes,in communities in South India, especially in Kerala, marriage between first cousins were prelevant.e.g.Nair community.
The reason was to maintain the family proriety in their on control.Because the male member is supposed to take care of his sisters family.i.e.children are taken c/o by their uncles(mothers brother). So the head of the family is uncle. If he has a daughter she gets the first preference.A nair women can have more than one husband.Hence the genome of the family members can be different. So congenital.hereditory medical problems were rare.
But this can create lot of problems now -a -days.Genome can have similarities since people adhere to monogamy.

They are cousins. This practice has and does occur in many cultures. Franklin Roosevelt married a cousin. Einstein's parents were cousins. You be the judge.

such marriages often result in genetic defects making themselves apparent. very often marriage between cousins is to keep the wealth in the family. however I don't think this is enough reason and they should not be done.

I am not sure what the exact law is, but I know most say that if they are at least your 3rd cousin, you can marry them. I think it is sick myself, but hey, to each their own, right?
