I live in Spokane and on social security benefits. My husband and I want to move to Seattle in two years.

Social security benefits are based on what you've contributed to social security over your lifetime. They do not (unfortunately) have anything to do with where you live or the cost of living there, to the best of my knowledge.

I work for an agency here in Seattle that serves as Representative Payee for roughly 75 Social Security Beneficiaries. Most of them are on SSI for disability reasons and have never worked. Their checks are usually around $600. Those that have worked in the past (we have a few ex-Boeing employees), are making up to $1,000/month on SSA/SSDI.

I hope this has helped! If not, you can always call SSI and stay on hold for 20 minutes and ask the pros! :)
