You can go to the bank it is written on but some banks will charge you even to honor one of THEIR checks. I had this happen with Bank of America...I am an accountant and received checks in payment of services rendered. Bank of America wanted $5.00 to cash the check. I took it back to my customer and told them I would not accept their check because of the fees! Why should I pay $5.00 when I know my customer pays monthly fees? I was furious! So...take it to a grocery store and ask them. Alot of times if you are buying groceries they will accept it. Also, you can mail it to your bank with a deposit slip. Some banks will cash the check because they honor their customers checks regardless if you have an account with them or not...Really though, if you are going to stay in Alaska, you should find a local bank. I would suggest a credit union associated with your employer or the bank your employer uses as a good starting point then you can always cash your paycheck...and they won't hold it for a few days the funds will automatically transfer from their account to yours.

Go to the bank that the person issued it to you from. They may charge a small fee to cash it if u dont have a account with them though. Probably like $5.

You should be able to cash it at the bank it is written on. Why wouldn't you want to open a new account? Especially if you MOVED???
Or have the person who wrote it cash it for you.
Good luck with that!
:)

Just go to the bank the check is written on, and they will cash it for you, with proper identification, unless, of course, it is worthless.
