I got punched in the eye about a week ago. The Dr. said I need surgery to repair a fracture in the bone around the eye. My question is this: my cornea (the white part) is still COMPLETELY red/purple. When should this be starting to go away? Could it stay like this? If anyone has ever had this experience, let me know. Serious answers only.

But it isn't ABOVE the white part. The white part ITSELF looks like it's filled with blood.

The white part of your eye is not cornea but is called Sclera, an above that white part lies 'bulbar conjunctiva'. The redness above your white part is called 'Sub-conjunctival hemorrhage' which subsides itself within a few weeks. If your orbit bone has a fracture then do get the surgery done as soon as possible as it may lead to other complications.

It may take weeks for it to go away. They blood has clotted and it is now healing. Over time you should feel less pressure and note less redness. When are you going to have surgery to repair the bone fracture? I would not be surprised if you end up with black and blue eyes after a surgery like that.

It works much like a regular bruise. It takes time for your body to clear away all that blood that has escaped your blood vessels into tissue where it does not belong. The worse the bruise, the longer it takes and I'd say you've got a pretty significant "bruise".
